Humanities Venture Lab
The Humanities Venture Lab is tuned to facilitate the many forms of innovation in the humanities. It offers a stimulating environment for humanities start-ups to stage experiments and to present themselves. The Humanities Venture Lab offers dedicated coaching to enable University of Amsterdam (PhD) students, staff and alumni to valorize their academic knowledge by developing a humanities minded enterprise.
Central to the Lab are the concepts of inspiration, innovation and impact.
Do you have a creative idea and are you keen on transforming it into a successful business or NGO? The Humanities Venture Lab offers a lively collaborative space that gives you room to develop your ideas and exchange them with your peers. In addition, the Lab functions as a platform for education about entrepreneurship. As such, the impact of humanities research is increased and students enjoy additional career advancement options.
The Humanities Lab continuous program entails the following activities:
- Coaching business and NGO developer
Wednesdays and Fridays, by appointment - Master course for humanities master students
- Explore, bootcamp and accelerator programs
- Work spaces in a community of humanities startups and professionals.

The Humanities Venture Lab is located at the University of Amsterdam’s Humanities Hub, at the heart of the historic city. This is also home to the Faculty of Humanities and the University Library. Adding to this, several national humanities research institutes are located here which are part of the KNAW (Royal Academy of Science). The close proximity of the museums, cultural institutions and media organizations add to the unique position and strength of this Amsterdam humanities cluster.

Speciale app zorgt voor sneller herstel na grote buikoperaties
Met de zogeheten ikHerstel-app herstellen patiënten aanzienlijk van grote buikoperaties dan patiënten die de app niet gebruiken. Het herstel duurt nog maar 7 in plaats van 9 weken. Met de app ervaren patiënten meer eigen regie door zelf actief aan hun herstel te werken. Daardoor wordt ook het zorgpersoneel ontlast.

IkHerstel, an app that helps patients recover after surgery, is getting a capital injection by CbusineZ – the investment arm of health insurer CZ, together with investment company Healthy Capital.
